A Formed Base and Five Panels to Plan
A flat-bottom pouch combines a formed flat base with side gussets that expand during filling. The front, back, both sides and bottom provide five surfaces for your printed layout. The finished bag remains a flexible package; its shelf presentation should be checked with your product.
Three Formats, Different Bases
Box bottom, flat bottom and block bottom are common buying terms. Confirm the actual base and seal construction on the drawing. An “8-side seal” description refers to the bag construction, rather than eight unrestricted printed faces.

Digitally Printed Flat-Bottom Coffee Pouches
This actual specialty-coffee project uses PET / VMPET / PE and digital printing. It demonstrates another flat-bottom format and artwork layout; size and closure choices are agreed around your own coffee fill.
Choose the Size, Base and Usable Opening
Start with your product, net fill and intended shelf footprint. Product density, the expanded base, side folds, closure and top seal all affect usable volume. A coffee-weight label does not establish the same capacity for sugar, tea or pet treats.

Pocket or Side-Opening Zipper
A side-access opening can leave the filling top clear in the agreed construction. Review the location, opening path and usable aperture on the sample. Keep the final heat-seal area separate from the customer’s reclosure feature.
Standard Zipper or Fold-Over Opening
Discuss repeated use, scoop access, opening instructions and the filling method. If a tin-tie is selected, it supports fold-over reclosing; it does not restore the original heat-sealed closure.
Coffee Valve
For freshly roasted coffee, plan degassing and valve placement together with the film, product and artwork. Keep critical text and features clear of the valve area.
Five-Panel Artwork
The front, back, two sides and bottom give your design room to communicate. Plan important text and barcodes on the areas that remain readable after forming. Confirm safe areas around folds, seals, windows and closures before approving print files.
Select the Structure for Product Protection
Choose the material around product moisture, oxygen and light sensitivity, fats or oils, shelf conditions and handling. Coffee, powders, pet treats and confectionery do not all need the same laminate.

Digital printing does not use engraved printing cylinders; gravure printing uses engraved cylinders. The applicable production and setup costs are included in your quotation.
The flat base, side folds, final sealing area and closure should be confirmed together on the sample and approved drawing. Match the printed panel layout to the actual formed bag, rather than treating every visible face as a separate unrestricted print area.
